Covent Gardens

In the 13th century the district of Covent Gardens was tilled by monks as an orchard and vegetable plot. By the 17th century a market sold fruit, vegetables and flowers and brothels and taverns became sights of violence and sin.

Nowadays, Covent Gardens is bustling with activity no matter what time of year and has become a magnet for tourists.  At the heart is The Piazza, where you will find energetic street performers and a maze of streets that will satisfy any shopper.

Covent Gardens is mainly pedestrianised so you don't have to worry about cars, buses and taxis but the crowds can get quite large, especially during the summer.

Visit Blackout for vintage clothing or find some classy bargains at The Loft, which offers discounted and second-hand designer clothing.  For Italian food pop into Carluccio and for traditional English tea visit Whittard of Chelsea.  If you are a museum-goer you will find the London Transport Museum, the Theater Museum and the Cabaret Mechanical Theater.

COVENT GARDENS
